JACKIE'S STORY

As a child, I was captivated by the beauty of animation.  Lines drawn on a page that are strung together to create life.  It was breathtaking and magical all in one moment.

I strive to re-create that magic with my paper art.  To make something unexpected.  To craft a moment that makes you pause.

Whether it’s a pop-up unfolding before your eyes, or tilting your head to see a paper sculpture from another angle, I believe in turning ordinary objects into something extraordinary.

MY BACKGROUND

I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.  After high school, I moved out to Los Angeles, California to attend the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Shortly after graduating, I returned to school to study illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

While learning to draw and paint, I discovered my affinity for paper.  After some long talks with my teachers and encouragement from my mentors, I decided to pursue a career in paper art.  So now, I still make “pictures,” just of a different kind.

Before deciding to become a full-time independent artist, I worked at a variety of companies, including two internships with DreamWorks Animation and one at the Walt Disney Company.

Besides art, I also founded Motivarti– an organization dedicated to providing resources, networking, and inspiration for self-motivated people who create art related to the entertainment industry.

I currently reside in Los Angeles, California taking on freelance projects and looking for opportunities to work as kid lit illustrator.
